…But voters of color also have to step up and take some responsibility. It’s the responsibility of white people not to be racist. It’s the responsibility of men not to be sexist. And it is a responsibility of all of us not to be homophobic.

I can’t stop listening to Beyonce’s latest song, “Single ladies”. And the video is even better. If only I could pull moves like that…

And if you haven’t seen it yet, the hilarious SNL parody:

Listening to: Ween – Even if you don’t

This weekend was a busy one. There were three shows I attended: Datarock, Ween, and Juan Maclean

Datarock 11.15.07

overall rating, B-

I was expecting more dance and less rock, but it was still good.

Ween 11.17.07

overall rating, B+

I wasn’t expecting much from this concert, but Ween really blew me away. Their songs come off great live. One thing I must say though. I hated the guitar solo in ‘Voodoo girl’. It was way too long and added nothing to the song. On a better note, I loved ‘Even if you don’t’. I’ve never heard this song til that night (I’ll admit I’m not the biggest Ween fan out there), and now it’s stuck in my head. How can you not like a song with a chorus that goes,

“I love you, even if you don’t
You’ve got your knife up to my throat
Why do you want to see me bleed?”

Juan Maclean 11.17.07

overall rating, B

I actually didn’t have to pay for this one. Not too many people showed up so they started letting people in for free. As for the music, I had no complaints. Everyone who was there was dancing.

Listening to: YACHT – It’s coming to get you

I never really liked Histology in school and, now, after a day in the department, I have one more reason to not like it.

I observed gross dissection most of the day, when the most interesting case came through…a leg! It was a fresh “specimen” and not fixed, so the blood was bright red and the skin still flush. I assume it came from a diabetic patient because the heel of the foot had a wound that was all necrotic and gangrenous. And most lower limb amputations are from Diabetics. The pathologist didn’t really discuss much about it, maybe because he was busy with the saw. Every time he cut into that leg with the saw, it felt as if he were doing it to my leg. It was almost too much to stomach.

I’m scheduled to assist in an autopsy. Now, I’m rethinking whether I want to do it or not…

It’s my second week at the Red Deer Regional Hospital and it’s going better than last week, where all we did was read manuals on safety and WHMIS. Today, I got started in Micro planting all sorts of specimens: stools, throats, etc. Most people wouldn’t find that interesting but it was something. A start. A stepping stone to much cooler things.

Blade Runnerso I rented Blade Runner the other day.

wikipedia.org

The film depicts a dystopian Los Angeles in November 2019 in which genetically manufactured beings called replicants, visually indistinguishable from adult humans, are used for dangerous and degrading work in Earth’s “off-world colonies”. After replicants became illegal on Earth, specialist police units — called “blade runners” — were trained to hunt down and “retire” (kill) escaped replicants on Earth. The plot focuses on a brutal and cunning group of replicants hiding in Los Angeles and a semi-retired blade runner, Rick Deckard (Ford), who reluctantly agrees to take on one more assignment.

I’ve been wanting to see this movie for 15 years. no jokes. I remember seeing trailers for this movie as a kid, I just never got around to seeing it. And my first impression is not that good. I was expecting soo much more. The protagonist, Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), is too much of a…wimp. He had to be saved numerous times from danger by his own enemies! And the action is sub-par as well. The one thing I liked about the film is the vision of the future we’re presented with. It can actually happen. And in that sense, this film was way ahead of its own time.

Maybe I’ll give it a second watch…
